BOONDOCKING IN THE BADLANDS AT “THE WALL”

In June 20206 we boondocked in the Badlands National Park - South Dakota at a location known as “The Wall” . The site is located about 6 miles south of Wall, South Dakota on Highway 240, and about 1 mile from the Pinnacle entrance to the Badlands National Park. When traveling south on Highway 240 from Wall and I-90, you will see three radio towers up on a hill to the left. You will turn on the dirt road leading to the east and when you get to the “Badlands Wall”, you can decide which way to turn and set up camp. Both directions have tons of spots and amazing views. Boondocking in the Badlands has changed though. Originally you could put your camper or tent in any spot along the Badlands Wall. There are now camping only spots marked by a US Forest sign. You are not suppose to camp anywhere else and there are numerous signs marking no vehicles allowed. If you get there before 3 pm your chances of getting a spot are much better, and it seems most campers leave by 11 am the next day.
