Sheridan Lake in Pennington County, South Dakota is probably my favorite lake to kayak in. We usually hug the shore and we can see tons of wildlife. I also go around collecting lost fishing gear - lures, bobbers, etc. and end up with a huge stash which is always fun. One year I even found a driving license and sent it back to the owner. Anyways, the lake is usually more calm than Pactola Lake and you can kayak the whole lake in about 4 hours - this includes going in and out all the cool inlets which provide shade and close encounters with birds and turtles. Make sure to also wear sunscreen and maybe a hat - I got pretty burned on my legs.
What a beautiful lake.
Turtles and more turtles.
Lots of turkey vultures around the lake.
Lots of Canadian geese.
Lots of pretty flowers.
I called this photo = Getting your ducks in a row.
Osprey in the tree.
Cool rocks.
At Dakota Point - a favorite local jumping point.
