The Pigtail Bridges
The Pigtail Bridges are a very unique and interesting type of bridge and were designed for Iron Mountain Road near Keystone, South Dakota. Cecil Clyde Gideon designed the Pigtail Bridges in 1932 using logs from nearby, then they were cut to fit, and put in place. He was a pioneer in the Black Hills and wore many hats including architect, craftsman, highway designer, and builder. He along with Senator Norbeck laid out the framework for the bridges, tunnels, and road now known as Iron Mountain Road. Today Iron Mountain Road is one of the most popular scenic roads in the hills.
