Silica Mines
The Silica Sand Mines is about 17 miles west of Hill City, South Dakota on Ditch Creek Rd in Pennington County. It is southwest of Deerfield Lake about 3 miles from the pavement. Once on Ditch Creek Rd you turn onto Peggy Dr/Road 385 and immediately park the car once you go over the bridge. The picture below shows where to pull in and park. From there you climb the road to the left up the hill a bit and it opens to the mines. The mines are pretty cool and you need a flashlight to enter. Look at google maps below to see where the mines are. Please use caution when exploring.
***Ditch Creek Road is a gravel road, and at times a little narrow so just keep that in mind. ***
